Show EARLY PIONEER LAID TO HER FINAL REST funeral services for mrs ann elizabeth christensen pioneer woman of monticello and wife of justice of the peace 0 L christensen of moab were held at the I 1 D S church at bonu cello sunday relatives and friends from all over san juan county and from various points in neighboring counties were present bishop A J redd presided at the services and the speakers included leonard jones kumen jones president wayne H redd and walter C Lyma not bland tag and D B 0 E walton and heber of monticello A number of selection were rendered by the choir among the out of town relatives who attended the funeral were justice christensen mrs tom taylor mrs albert maxwell and wels christensen of moab mrs elizabeth christensen and sons nets and lester of cleveland and dr clem christensen and family of durango colo mrs christensen was born feb 21 1858 af salt lake city the daughter of robert and alice hulme thompson in 1860 her parents moved to dixie driving one of the first three wagons to reach what Is now st george she spent her girlhood at st george and in 1874 during the building of the st george temple she was married to 0 L christensen the ceremony being performed by george A smith a counselor to president brigham young on feb 12 1876 mr and mrs christensen and others left for arizona having been called by the church to form settlements there mr christensen spent 11 years in arizona where the mormon colonists established four communities along the little colorado river mr christensen was an indian interpreter being an aide to jacob hamblen well known indian scout and missionary in 1890 mr and mrs caristensen and family were called to the bluff city district of southern utah and they spent a number of years there later moving to monticello mrs christensen resided at mantl cello for about 30 years and enjoyed a very wide friendship throughout southeastern utah sha Is survived by her husband and nine children who are sheriff C R christensen of san juan county N J christensen wilbord christensen john christensen mrs alice burr mrs ann hyde mrs mary evans mrs phoebe bailey and mrs jennie beeson all residing at monticello |
