Show TAYLOR WOULD GUARD RIGHTS OF UPPER RIVER STATES A bill tor approval of the division of the waters of the colorado river between the upper and lower basin states as provided in the colorado river santa fe compact has been prepared by representative taylor democrat of colorado mr tailor said his bill was aimed to protect the rights of the four up per basin states to seven and one half maltlon acre feet of water yearly A number of applications tor power projects are on file with the federal power commission after march ath next the commission will be tree to grant these applications under the santa fe compact colorado new mexico utah and wyoming are granted seven and one half million acre feet of water yearly and the lower basin states of arizona california and nevada eight and one halt million feet yearly the bill would restrict the water used for the development of power in the lower basin states to water already allocated to those states under the santa fe compact whether or not the johnson boulder canyon bill Is passed by con eress this session taylor said his proposal should be passed by congress to protect the right of the upper basin states under the terms of the measure all priority and other rights of every kind and nature for beneficial use of waters of the entire colorado river basin and system shall hereafter be satisfied solely from water apportioned by said compact to that basin in which they are situated |
