Show memorialize CONGRESS TO eunace LAWS regulating GRAZING ON THE PUBLIC DOMAIN federal control of grazing on the public domain was demanded by stockmen stoc kmen of utah who met at salt lala city last anday to discuss the problems arising out of unregulated ase of winter ranges of the western country bert allred W D ham anond and J E snyder of moab who attended the meeting as representatives of the grand county stock growers association returned from salt lake sunday and report that the session was well attended every j county being represented excepting dagget A very interesting discus was bad and the range question was gone into in tall its angles it was the consensus of opinion that better results will be obtained by fedr eral rather than state control of the public domain A committee consisting of congressman don B colton william peterson of the utah agricultural college state senator W D cand and J M macfarlane president of the utah horse cattle growers association and william bailey was appointed to draw up resolutions memorializing memorial izing congress to enact legislation regulating grazing on the public domain such legislation if the recommendations of the utah stockmen stoc kmen are followed will contain the following provisions 1 due consideration and protection for local settler and home builder 2 protection for the established cser 3 A reservation for higher use 4 grazing control should pertain the forage resource only 5 A tenure of use that will assure adequate stability to livestock industry 6 provision for group rather than individual winter range allotments where necessary 7 the fullest local or self government consistent with the needs of the range that can be applied especially ally with reference to whom shall be entitled to graze the number of stock an individual may graze etc 8 restoration of the forage crop to the highest economical production 9 the adequate protection of watersheds from standpoint of water supply flood control and erosion control 10 due consideration for conservation of wild life and protection of recreational interests 11 that grazing fees charged shall ie only nominal the moab delegates to the convention believe that the meeting will result in much good in ou a definite program and in uniting the various stock interests of the state m a campaign to secure the approval of the legislation proposed |
