Show OIL MANS CAR SWEPT A E gibson field superintendent for the southern oil company in charge of the cedar mesa well near mexican hat sustained the loss of his dodge coupe monday when the car became stalled in la wash and was swept into the san juan river by a flood resulting from a cloudburst mr gibson had attempted to cross a wash in which there was a small he succeeded in getting through the water but his engine quit before he could pull completely out of the wash mr gibson got out of is car and was with the engine when a much greater torrent came down the wash he was forced to abandon the car and barely managed to escape with his life the flood swept the car into the san juan nver about a mile distant the accident occurred within ai short distance of the old mexican hat refinery the wash is ordinarily dry according to paul baird who asme up from the mexican hat section last night the storms the first of the week were exceptionally severe in that district there a flood in every wash and the san juan river is higher than was ever before known |
