| Show 1 WELL the shafer no 1 discovery well on cane creek dome is rapidly approaching the horizon where the second oil sand is expected last night the drill was at a depth of 2510 feet the next pay stratum is expected at from 2700 to 2800 feet during the past week feet of hole have been made the progress being at the rate of abacut 40 feet a day the drill is still in a salt formation and to date feet of this material have been penetrated tra ted it is expected that a change to a shale formation will be encountered the next feet it is the intention to run 6 inch casing soon after the salt is pierced A large supply of mud has been transported by boat to the camp and will be used in an attempt to secure a formation shutoff shut off of water since drilling was resumed after the producing stratum at 2028 feet had to be abandoned operations have been carried on with a hole full of water and a shutoff shut off will be effected before the next objective ise ached the J H shafer no 1 well on shafer dome was last night at a depth of 1245 feet the drill still being in hard limestone progress at this well is at the rate of about 15 feet of hole a day over feet of this lime have already been cut and the log of the cane creek well indicates that the bit should soon reach the bottom of the stratum twelve inch casing will be run and cemented at around 1500 feet after which much faster progress should be made in spite of the hard formation being encountered the shafer dome well is rapidly attaining depth and will be in interesting territory within another month |
