Show approximate LOCATION OF COLORADO ROAD SELECTED the federal engineers in conjunction with those of utah and colorado have approximately located the federal aid park to park highway between Montice IIo and dove creek and the utah engineers have already surveyed the highway between mon and the colorado line in a general way the plan is to make this highway on a straight line between monticello and dove creek it wont pay any attention to section lines or present county roads and will vary from a straight line between the two places only to avoid a few surface obstructions that would greatly add to the cost to surmount after following the present road out of monticello and crossing the deep canyon this side the survey of the new highway makes a beeline for making only two short detours from a straight line it is located only a short distance south of mike Doo leys house and makes the coal bed crossing about the point of the present one directly west of northdale Nort hdale thence going about an eighth of a mile south of that place the line from that pont to dove creek has not been definitely surveyed but will follow the beeline bee line plan as near as possible this of course will cut the ranches a good deal and some quite badly but the federal engineers figure that by using the beeline bee line plan there will be a saving in both time and money it of course will coet money for right of way than in following section lines however the distance will be shortened by over six miles and as they estimate the cost of grading and hard surfacing at a mile the thus saved will more than pay for the right of way to say nothing of cost of maintenance and time saved in traveling the money already spent and being spent on the county roads will not be wasted as they will be used as feeders to the main highway dove creek the first meeting of the shebang club for the year was held with miss besa davis at the home of mrs max taylor the mem ibers who were present were misses ethel dark hazel lovenda Loven dg bethel watts gertrude mering bem fem taylor and laurel hiatt and mrs ross thomson thomas B foy of moab utah was in the city during the week conferring with his son here he left for twin falls where he will close a deal for ten carloads of uranium and vanadium franu their southern utah properties preston idaho news miss neva dark daughter of mr and mrs R C dark of moab was one of the university of utah students honored at the annual award assembly friday morning on the U campus miss dark won an award for her activities on the debating team colorados law which imposed a tax of 25 cents a head on sheep from foreign states grazing on the public domain in that state has been declared unconstitutional by the colorado court according to word received here the law was considered unfair by utah sheep men especially in view of the fact that i thousands of colorado sheep are brought into utah for winter graz ing and are not subjected to special taxes in this state mrs R J fletcher entertained at bridge wednesday afternoon her guests were mesdames C A smith J L daugan max taylor L L taylor D E baldwin melissa davis clara savage boyd hammmond Hams mond albert beach J T learning C A robertson and miss gertrude mering miss ireta fletcher entertained a number of young folks yesterday dairty refreshments were served those present were misses irma beach clara taylor grayce goudelock margaret Loven dge and dorothy maxwell kenneth robertson edgar kerby loys maxwell reed and loren robertson R J taylor and sister miss helen taylar left sunday for salt lake city miss taylor is a member of this years graduating class of the university of utah and will receive her degree at the commencement exercises next week mr taylor after spending ten days in salt lake will leave for ann arbor mich where he will attend the university of michigan law school for two years mrs harry strong was an arrival from salt lake the last of the week and spent a couple of days with her husband who is in the employ of the embar oil company here she left sunday evening for long island N Y where she will spend a two months visit with relatives |
