Show W AND GAS COME IN STRONG casing now being run and will he cemented in tomor x row well expected to come in with big flow when sands are tapped next week that the midwest utah discovery well is as active as it was when it first blew in on december 8 was indicated last night at ten clock when the showing of oil that had been in evidence since bottom was reached yesterday morning increased to a considerable stream the oil is issuing from between the ten and twelve inch casing there is a heavy flow of gas with it the increased 01 flow will not interfere to any great extent with the cementing operations which will start tomorrow friday morning while there is some possibility that the well might again break loose and run wild before the eight inch casing can be cemented this is not considered likely in view of the fact that the sand has been budded mudded off and the hole is full of heavy salt water which should tend to hold the oil flow in check the running of casing will be completed this afternoon and cementing will start early tomorrow ti morrow morning ace coring to word received from the camp at noon today eight and a quarter inch casing is today being run in the midwest utah southern discovery well on the big six dome nine miles southwest of moab following five weeks work of drilling up the 10 inch casing which collapsed on february 10 the will be cemented in either this afternoon or tomorrow morning the cement will be allowed to set for five or six days and the plug will then be drilled out to open up the oil sand to test the flow drilling in operations should take about march 24 such was the welcome announcement made last night by i L L bechtel superintendent of the midwest Mid vest refining company who has had charge of the task of cleaning out the hole following the collapsing of the 10 inch pipe when bottom at 2024 feet was reached yesterday morning oil and gas commenced to show up and preparations were immediately made to drop the casing in spit of the fact that the hole was full of boavy salt water oil in considerable quantities made its appearance and there was a strong flow of gas this indicates unmistakably that the well which came in december 8 with a production estimated at around barrels should come lack as strong as ever when itts drilled in the drilling out of the old iron was completed yesterday morning ending a five weeks job which at times threatened to continue for months for a time the hole showed a tendency to run crooked and it took a weeks time to straighten it up As the bit neared the bottom of the hole better headway was made and for the past several days a depth of about two feet was made a day 1 the running of casing will be completed about noon today and the pipe will immediately be cemented in it is possible that the cementing can be completed tody the cement will be allowed to set undisturbed for four days after which bailing out preparatory to drilling will start if it proves that the water has been successfully shut off the cement plug will be drilled out and the sands opened up practically all arrangements have been completed for putting the well on a test for about 1000 barrels has been provider and flow lines have been laid t that the well will come in with a production of from three fc to five thousand barrels daily is considered a strong probability by officials of tho midwest refining company and it is certain that the flow will exceed one thousand barrels when the well blew in on december 8 it flowed by heads at intervals varying from twenty to forty minutes spouting a column of oil from two to three hundred feet into the air the oil and gas ignited burning down the rig after the fire was extinguished a control head was placed on the ten inch pipe and the well settled down to a steady flow of oil outside the casing which continued until the oil was off requiring six weeks time although the well was subjected to consider able abuse during the mudding operations it is not believed that the sand has been damaged to any appreciable extent and i oil men who are familiar with the situation are confident that the well will come back stronger than ever when the sands are finally opened up studding Spud ding in operations are under way at the midwest utah southern well no 2 on the shafer dome about five miles southwest of no 1 drilling started friday but slow progress was made for several days due to a crevice in the ledge on which the well was started and which tended to produce a crooked hole this trouble has been overcome and the hole was down about 35 feet last night good progress is now being made the hole so far is dry no surface water having been encountered D bergera frank grosser and jos litizzette directors of the western allies oil gas company arrived yesterday from helper to spend several days in the boccal field the western allies company has extensive holdings here and plans to start a test well on mr bergeria Berg eraa permit in the tipper valley in the near future the officials of the company are highly enthused with the outlook for oil development in moab valley and feel sure that by the end of the year there will be several producing wells in the valley atuk |
