| Show PROTEST of STAGE INE 61 petition petitions are now being circulated and generally signed in grand and san juan counties as well aa as in other sections of utah which protest against the passage by the le la lure of senate bill no 93 introduced i by senator peter which seeks to place additional restrictions and cost costs en oil the automobile stage lines imes of the state the bill provides that transportation por tation companies must pay an ex tra 5 license on each car and truck and a mileage tax of I 1 cent per mile i for each ear car and truck operated in addition transportation companies would be required to furnish a bond from to guarantee ing the sate safe conduct of their business the premium on such a bond would cost at least annually and sure sum ty V companies announce that they will not rot sell such a bond unless the per dittes provides collateral security for fol the amount of the bond in other words the bill if enacted into law would simply throw the transportation companies of the outlying districts out of the passenger carrying business as its they could not possibly meet the requirements of the measure the bill Is in addition to the gasoline taxing measure which will doubtless be passed and which pro vides for a special ta its of 2 cents per gallon on gasoline the peters bill it Is 13 believed bell cleved Is sponsored by the railroads in an effort to stifle stiffs automobile transportation competition in the thickly populated districts its effect however would be more far reach reaching int than that in that it would rula ruin the tran lion tion companies of the sparsely populated sections and take away from frail counties like grand and san juan the transportation service they are tire now receiving it Is inconceivable Is that a legislature would enact such a it law yet reports reat from salt lake state th that at a concerted eff effort rt is beant bein made to put a the measure over with fair chances chance of success the outlying counties whose very exi existence stene a is seriously threatened must get busy at once if the discriminatory measure Is to be defeated it is understood t that bat a similar bill w was as introduced in the colorado legis lature with the backing of the rail rall road companies but it was killed yesterday yett erday at moab nort than three hundred citizens signed a petition petit protesting against t the peters bill and other papers a are re being bein cincu laed at monticello and blinding it la is expected that four or five hundred juan people PC will sign the tests which will be forwarded at once to the I 1 legislature egi lature this entire section Is s a aun unit ia in demanding that v |
