| Show PIKES pitk P K HIGHWAY IS ELIGIBLE FOR FEDERAL AID the following letter from depre senta tive geo J constantine discusses the possibilities for teeming nt federal aid for the construction of the pikes peak ocean to ocean highway through this county and will rill be of interest to those citizens of the county who aro are interested in seeing the highway improved in order to attract a greater volume of tourist traffic salt lake city feb 3 1923 mr L L taylor times independent moab utah dear sir sir it will be of interest to the people concerned with procuring a travel abole road from price to the colorado state line to know just what likelihood hood there is of bringing fuch such a thing to pass ass I 1 have visited with the state road commission relative to this fact and have the following to state at the present time there is officially designed as a secondary federal aid id project a road from price to green river green rivet river to valley city via thompsons Thomp sons cisco westwater to the colorado state line under what la in known as a seven per cent broj project this project rotch is now eligible for federal all aid under this program the commission will have about for 1923 for 1924 1921 and for 1925 1926 for all federal aid projects project a in the state this wll will be apportioned ionea on a 3 year plan under the arrangement the county must furnish 26 per rent cent of the funds and then the stale state will guarantee this to the federal government and then the project will receive 70 76 per cent from the government under 0 this Js plan it will therefore be necessary that when a project Is desired the county raise and furnish 26 per cent of the funds required be f fore ore any federal aid can be procured to comp complete lets tho the toad road above outlined it will therefore be first necessary necess iry that the counties Inter cited false their 26 per cent of thi the money ahk stat tat then to guarantee wand it and then the fed eral aid aw will be forthcoming to tee khe extent of the remaining 76 16 per ebat of odthe the money ll 11 I 1 if I 1 understand th arois slon don te erectly then the ahi trad la Is efow for the I 1 per plan larf AU JAU that Is necessary ne la is fatz far ibri ai to match the federal money monty andre quest the aid a and in d the ho 0 project jt willbe be a reality but emte ki 0 when to the 29 21 awit t to efto form this leu lee erfa 14 food for thought I 1 hope it will ill be bt so that out of it nay may taime some kind of action that will J to aru procuring nt a road that win give giles bitah t this L 3 mach h needed inlet inlet and outlet through corado I 1 am hero to do what I 1 ceafer the people and hope they will co adjer ate site with A ith me trie and give me mo w t 0 of their desires A nd IV IP y ary t truly r oara I 1 t vo J CONSTANT Wb |
