Show moab hard hit when electric plant goes dead town is dark sans light eight or power moab people during the present week have been searching through dusty attics for discarded coal oil lamps and candles havo met with a brisk sale at the stores as a result of the refusal of the generator at the moab light power electric plant to aurther perform its duty and furnish a supply of juico juice for the om danys line throughout tho the town the dynamo quit at an early hour sunday morning and an examination disclosed tho the fact that it had bad burned out this necessitated rewinding tho the armature amature and as there thero were nero no facilities here for that work vork the generator wai was sent to salt lake city to be repaired tho tile heavy dynamo weighing a ton was sent to salt lake Alon monday by express and it is estimated that five or six days will be required t to 0 rewind it if the work is rushed the generator should be back in moab by the first of next week and service may bo be reamed by tho the electric company by monday or tuesday while bomea and stores have been seriously inconvenienced by the lack of lights the business houses which use electricity for power lire are hit the worst arst the times independent has experienced perien ced its share of troubles in an attempt to rig up temporary power every machine in tho the shop including linotype big newspaper press and the two job presses arc are equipped with individual electric motors and without tho the shop has been at a standstill A gasoline engine which we havo have had for a number of years for uso use in such emergencies emulated the missouri mule and refused to function for a couple of days in spite of the earnest efforts and pleadings of a flock of mechanics chanice cs after a prolonged balky spell the engine finally consented to run after n r fashion on and has furnished power for the linotype machine and a job press with this somewhat limited power ac 0 o are able to put out this souvenir edition for which wo we humbly crave our readers indulgence it i bo be impossible except at heavy expense to install an engine to operate the big newspaper press and since electric power will doubtless be resumed next week it was deemed advisable to get got by this week by issuing our edition from the smaller press news matter in this issue is is necessarily limited but wo we hope that by next week we will be back to normal the ides theater has also been put out of busin business by the lack of power the theater was aas forced to cancel its shows until power service is resumed |
