Show ament five eais ago it young man came to moab then an tin isolated community of only a few hundred people and announced his intention of establishing a newspaper I 1 he I 1 C brought with mith him a hand presa and a few fonts of type and although althou gli he had had no previous experience as a printer he issued the first edition of the grand valley times within a week meek after hie his arrival it has never missed an issue a since and the fact that it was able to weather meather the storms of adversity during the first ten years of its career was due solely to the perseverance verance and determination of its founder yesterday J N corbin the founder and first editor of this paper died to this office his death comes as a deep and personal blow we feel that we have lost something more than a friend we considered him a member of our staff one who mho could always be relied on for advice for encouragement and for support A frequent visitor at our office his cheerfulness and optimistic spirits were like a tonic and rind his good will and friendship were ere things which we me highly prized in looking back over oer the early files of the grand valley times the very life of justus N corbin is spread before us his ills hopes hope his aspirations hi his s determination his fine moral character his honesty they are to be seen on every page never an issue that did not in some manner advocate the bettering of conditions in town and county never an issue that did not carry some h helpful efu encouragement to those who were working towards the development of this section J N corbin rendered a great and inestimable service to his comman uy ity working practically without compensation year after year he labored incessantly to build up grand county the papers income in those days was barely enough to buy paper and ink and the editor was forced to engage in other pursuits for a livelihood yet in spite of this he never faltered during the ten years of his ownership of the paper just as he never stopped radiating optimism and progress during the sixty five years of his life the writer will always reverence ree rence the memory of J N corbin it was our privilege to know him rather intimately and no mans friendship was ever eer held in higher regard he was a man of exceptionally high character his rugged hon caty esty his unswerving adherence to principles which he believed to be sight his scrupulous application to duty stamped him as a man among men he never curried favors he be expressed his conscientious opinions without fear or hope of reward his ills loyalty to family and friends was unshakable and his friendship was a possession to be valued in the death of justus N corbin a splendid citizen a loyal husband and father a just neighbor a zealous community worker a conscientious public servant is gone our town and county have suffered a loss that will be felt for many a year J N corbin has finished his assignment thirty has been written on the last page of his career and the fo forms rm 3 have been closed he ile passes on to his maker for his re reward wa rd and wo we who knew him here have no doubt that his reward will be great greal biro john Pet eroh accompanied ly oy her laughter daughter miss emma left the last of the week for logan where the latter will attend the utah agrical Agri cul tural college thi this coming term tem E it street state bank examiner returned yesterday from american fork where he went lat last week to take his family who had been here for a visits |
