Show 1 SCHOOL STANDARD INCREASED IN STATE standards for accrediting high schools for participation in the state high school fund were amended thurs day by the elate state board or education with a view of raising the standards of scholarship required among the students etu denta and concentrating the study in definite channels of work the change changes were adopted on recommendation of dr C N jensen state superintendent of public instruction and are in conformity with objectives jec tives ought sought in secondary seton dary education as defined by the national education association summed up the changed standards require teaching in health command of fundamental pro processes cesse 11 worthy home membership vocation citizenship worthy use of leisure time and ethical character the secondary school is in three classes f first arst the junior high school second the senior high school and third the four foar vear high school three years full work beyond the sixth grade of elementary schools with a minimum graduation requirement of fifty points a year is to be required for junior high schools the senior high school is to the state courses of study offering three full years of approved high school work and bequir bg g the completion of the junior high school work for entrance the four year school is to require quire the graduation from the eighth elementary grade or its equivalent for entrance and is to offer four years of high school work in accord with the state requirements other requirements quire ments for secondary schools embracing all three classes are listed as follows ol lows one hundred twenty six minute periods are required to com complete a years work in any unit subject courses must be organized so that with each succeeding year the work increases in difficulty in proportion to the increased capacity ot of the students stud en ants ta for graduation being required to have a minimum of three units a year the school year must be of a minimum duration of thirty five weeks exclusive elusive of holidays and require for graduation three units of english three units of mathematics and science cl with at least oe one unit in hist history pry teachers holding dunfor junior high school certificates are entitled to full time teaching in the junior higo school teachers holding grammar grade diplomas may may teach each not exceeding one half of their time in the ninth grade or the last year of junior high school senior high school teachers shall be required to meet the state requirements with reference to credentials secondary schools equipped to do one year high school sch work beyond the eighth grade but not offen nv anoush to gr graduate cuate students from high school may participate in the distribution of the state high school fund providing requirements are met for the year years of secondary woric work in I 1 which instruction strud st ruction tion is given |
