| Show I The Convention City I SALT ALT LAKE CITY may well g give ge e energetic support to San FranCisco Fran Fran- Cisco in its campaign for the next national Republican con con- Raymond Benjamin a leader In hl Republican circles in California has come conic here bringing the tale invitation that the metropolis lis of the intermountain region join with the coast metropolis in presenting San Francisco's petition to the national executive committee com COIn of the Republican party and we would urge that Utah's vote be unanimous for the neighboring city on the coast We Ve would not have this judged as a partisanship affair Our enthusiasm would be just as genuine if San Francisco was seeking to get the Democratic convention But what we do believe should be carefully considered is the opportunity to get a gre great t number numb r of prominent men ticking across the continent to attend a conven conven- tion And coming they will be surprised at our grea greatness ness be amazed at the multifold opportunities of the great West Vest and they will return to their homes better acquainted with us us and because of the acquaintanceship better friends of the states that lie tie west of the Miss Mississippi The West Vest has never been honored with a national political convention The East has gone upon the theory that we people of the West Vest constituted only the tail of the body politic to be wagged as they pleased and to follow the lead of sedate Maine But in 1916 the old saying that as Maine goes so goes the nation nation na na- na tion was knocked in the discard discar and the v vote te of California returned returned returned re re- re- re turned Woodrow Wilson Vilson to the White House So now the greatest great great- greatest est cst metropolis of the West Vest comes to the front and invites the Uie Republican Republican Re Re- publican party to hold hotd its national convention in the West And the West Vest is entitled to it If any argument beyond the mere justice of San Francisco's petition is needed we would refer to the important matter of climate Any person who w would uld prefer St. St Louis or Chicago during during dur dur- ing the month of July to San Francisco could justifiably be adjudged crazy with the heat San Francisco also has an ideal municipal auditorium for the holding of the convention and hotel accommodations are fully adequate e. e And speaking of auditoriums some day Salt Lake City will have a a. big auditorium there auditorium there is expectation it will wilt come as a fitting memorial to Utah's soldiers sailors and marines who served in the great war war and and then this city will be able to togo go after some of the big conventions and when we do we will not hesitate to ask San Francisco to second our petition |
