Show Sports Here and There by Al Ablett After New Year's day. The sixty-four dollar question will be, who is the better team, Michigan Mich-igan or Notre Dame. At the end of the season it was the Irish by a wide margin, but the poll taken tak-en the first of this week it was Michigan 2 to 1. The thing that impressed me was that the experts ex-perts in the middle west picked Michigan by a wide margin. These were the fellows that had an opportunity of seeing both teams in action in more than one game. The only thing that I can say is, at no time did Notre Dame make Southern California look foolish, but by all accounts, Michigan Mich-igan made them look like Ned in the first reader. Should Michigan Mich-igan and Notre Dame play (you can't stop a fellow from dreaming), dream-ing), Mike Michigan. Well, Utah's basketball team amn i iook so gooa on ineir eastern east-ern trip, losing four out of six and to teams that aren't rated too highly. I guess those boys back there don't read the papers, so they didn't know that the Utes were supposed to be one of the best. It looks like the only ones that knew that was the Utes. Watson has been out with a broken finger and to say they missed him would be putting it mildly. Hope he can make the difference, before they start play in our own skyline league, because be-cause Wyoming and Denver have real ball clubs. But the team to watch in my book is BYU. The material is there. It looks like Randy Clark has reached the form that made him such a star with the great wartime Great Lakes team. Locally the BDAA league is to start on Monday the 12th. They have six teams lined up and ready for the starting gun. After having seen every team in action but Tooele, I am convinced that the race is going to be as close as a Scotchman's purse. There has been 20 games in the last ten days at the club, so every team is in excellent shape. I am sure that the local fans nrp in fnr some really thrilling games. Our high school team opens the league season tonight, Friday, Fri-day, against Cyprus. I understand under-stand the Jenkins twins are out on account of sickness and Mickey Mick-ey Culleton isn't in the best of shape, so the locals have their work cut out for them. These three boys are on Allsop's starting start-ing five. Cyprus has a veteran team toack and are being touted by those that have seen them as being one of the best in the B division. Come what may, Bingham Bing-ham will be in their giving them a battle. Come next Tuesday night the big argument as to who is the best between Nuttall and Hu-nick Hu-nick will be settled. They are matched for the ten round main event at the fair ground colos-eum. colos-eum. This time at catch weights. Nuttall won their last bout by a KO in the third but the Hu-nick Hu-nick crowd said it was because their boy had to take off too many pounds in order to make the weight. This time nobody will have an excuse. Those in on the know say it will be a good scrap. Myself, I think Armstrongs boy, which is Keith Nuttall, has too much class and carries too many guns. My guess is it will go about 6 heats. See you next week, ALf' o |
