A GUEST SAGE AND D QUESTIONER This life we live upon the earth The records show begins at birth When first we draw a mortals mortal's breath And ends with what is known as as death Right said the sage From age to age We Ve move along and each in turn Has lessons which we all must learn So far so good a questioner said But carl cane one live lire and still be dead And can one die and still live on Think you that life and death are one Suppose I drop A care and stop Cry Done with that its charm has flown Have I not died The sage replied Some merely call that older grown grown And what Is life can you explain explain explain ex ex- ex- ex plain Is it not sense of joy and pain And love and hate and interest deep dee And death the indifference known as sleep Is life not proved By being moved At sorrows sorrow's word or loss or gain Though still in breath Is it not death Unmoved indifferent to remain Copyright 1940 Edgar A.
