Show SALT LAKE COUNTY RECREATION by II. E. Babcock In the third round of the "Little "Lit-tle Giants" league the Mohawks won their second game by defeating de-feating the Seagulls by a score of 28-8. Again it was Tommy Lovat who led his team with a total of 20 points. Bobby Nichols with 5 and John Goris with 3, completed the scoring for the Mohawks. Bus Strand with 7 points and Dickie Montoya with 1, rounded out the scoring for the Seagulls. , In the second game of the day the much improved Miner team shut out an inexperienced Golden Gold-en Hawks team by a score of 31 to 0. Jack Herriman and Norman Bianchi with 8 points each were high scorers for the Miners. Louis Susaeta with 6, Richard Nielson with 4 and Frank Zdunich with 5, rounded out the scoring for the Miner team. In the third game the classy Navy Juniors handed the Cougars Cou-gars there first defeat in the league lea-gue by a score of 32 to 15. Russell Rus-sell Ridder, Ronnie Boren with 9 points each, Shadow Pando with 8, Dickie Susaeta with 4 and Tommy James with 2, completed complet-ed the scoring for the Navy. For the Cougars Cresk? Herrera, Lynn Miller and Tony Menna with 4 points each, Layne Caldwell with 2 and Louis Sarrao with 1 were the boys who accounted for the points. A very interesting feud is taking tak-ing place between two third grade teams the "Wildcats" and the "Lions" in the Midget league. lea-gue. In the two games played so far the Lions have been victorious victor-ious by the scores of 4 to 2 and 3 to 1. Other games of interest last week found "Spuds Gang", a team of 7th and 8th graders, defeating de-feating a team of 5th and 6th graders from Copperfield by the score of 24 to 17. "Spuds Gang", one of the finest little teams for their size, played good ball. Headed by Julie Gallegos with 10 points and fine floor games by "Mos" Burke, Harold Yates and Don Tyson. The 5th and 6th graders from Copperfield and much smaller than Spuds Gang, were very much in the ball game. Little Mike Gonzales led the Copperfield crew with 10 points. A treat was in store for the 7th and 8th graders of Bingham and Copperton Monday night as they substituted in the BDAA league. Bmgham, known as Spuds Gang, defeated Copperton 25 to 18. James Carrigan of the Copperton team with his accurate accur-ate shooting put his team into a 10 to 4 first quarter lead and at the end of the half Copperton was leading by a score of 15 to 10. In the second half led by Julie Jul-ie Gallegos, who scored 10 points for the evening, Spuds Gang came back strong to defeat the Copperton Gang. Outstanding floor games were played by Don Tyson, Harold Yates and "Mo" Burke for Spuds Gang. Bob Peterson, Pe-terson, Larry Stillman, Vivian Butt and H. Smith played great floor games for the losers. Feb. 24 Schedule 3:30, Golden Gold-en Hawks vs Navy Juniors; 4:10, Cougars vs Seagulls; 4:50, Mohawks Mo-hawks vs Miners. Attendance reached 150 on Saturday and from 75 to 100 during the week. |
