T T. Taylor of Colorado providing for forthe forthe forthe the building of the San Juan railway Assertion is made in the letter from the Colorado organizations that the building of this road which would connect Durango Colo Cola with Gallup N N. M. M on the main line of the SantaFe Santa SantaFe SantaFe Fe railroad bo be of material help to the southeastern part of Utah and aid greatly in the development and building up of orL that now wild and open part of the state Joseph Shepherd secretary of ot the chamber of commerce has written the people of San Juan Juhn county Utah askIng asking ask ask- ing their attitude on the proposed railway railway rail rail- way before taking any action with the national delegation It is the opinion here that the only help will be to Colorado Colorado Colo Cob rado points points' and will not offer any great assistance to southeastern Utah other th than n make that territory tributary tributary tribu tribu- tary to Colorado commercial centers The proposed line does not touch the state of Utah at any point The Taylor bill provides that the government shall construct tho the San SanJuan SanJuan SanJuan Juan railway to connect with the Denver Den DenS ver Rio Grande at Durango Colo Cola and the Santa Fe railway at Gallup N. N M. M a distance of miles between the two points The line crosses extensive ex cx coal lands and would cost approximately ap ap- proximately It is pointed out that the road would give the government government gov gov- a direct route from these coal lands to the Pacific coast |
