A dem demand demand de de- de- de mand nd Is made usually for political m purposes that wet we we uphold American w honor hono If an American goes Into the borderland of the war possibly In the Balkan Balkan Balkan Bal Bal- kan region or Into the district where the French and German armies are arc operating operating operating ope ope- rating and suffers imprisonment or detention or even d death ath we do not find th the tiie same Insistent clamor for Intervention Conditions in Mexico are now chaotic While the Carranza government Is the governing power in Mexico It has not had time to re-establish re law and order orde or even the form of government nt in all parts of the country There are thousands of former members of Villas Villa's army roaming the northern and western part of Mexico without organization They are arc prat- prat guerillas as they carry their rifles and forage for supplies These men en are arc bitter toward Americans because they blame this c country for their defeat The conditions which exist In Mexico are not unlike those which were were found In In some parts of the West and Southwest along the edge of the confederacy confederacy con con after the close of the civil War At that time those persons who ventured Into this danger zone zone took their lives In their hands Scores of persons were killed by the bandits of this re region re- re I gion glon and 2nd robbery was so common as to excite little comment The situation In Mexico is Infinitely worse And yet scores scores of Americans Ameri Amerl cans have rushed Into that war torn country on the heels of the retiring armies and In spite of the warning of the sta state e department and consular of officers of- of of I If men eager for financial gain persist In rushing Into danger It Is hard to see how they can be saved Every effort should be made by this country to secure the punishment of the the- murderers of Americans In Mexico But talk of Intervention as a remedy for the folly of men who rush into the jaws of death Is senseless Scores of Americans possibly hundreds have met death In chasing fortune for for- tune through the jungles of Central and South America There Is s and can be beno beno no protection for these adventurous spirits ts I |
