Show OPENING DAlE fOR TRAffiC TRAFFICS S IS UNCERTAIN Construction of Western Pacific Proceeding Rapidly Rapid Rapid- ly to 0 Completion BUILDING ATTENDED WITH WITH DIFFICULTY DIFFICULTY I Probably Road Will Not I Open Before Before- January January- H Next ext I With a little over n miles les of track i yet to be be laid with a force of nearly II men working to say nothing of four track laying hying machines and numerous numerous numer numer- ous ens steam shovels and train crews it itis itis itis is expected that the Western Pacific will be connected not connected not in operation operation- some time during next September This statement is made on information furnished by an officer of the road Tho stories printed in this this city and andin andin andin in the east cast to the effect that the road will bo be in operation by July 1 or August August Au Au- gust 1 or or- September 1 is without authority authority au au- according to the statement of I believe said he the officer that there is a a. misunderstanding on the part o 0 the newspaper men They have got the idea that the connecting of the road will mean that it is in in operation Such will not be the case Over two months a ago o THE TUE TELEGRAM TELE- TELE GRA GRAM published a story to tho the effect that the road would probably be in operation open for traffic about November November November No No- vember 1 I do not know who gave out gave out out that information but it was evidently given iven by someone who knew what he was talking about The Tho talk about the road being in to operation in July August Augustor or September is rot We wish as do the people of this city that such would be behe bethe betho the tho case but it is simply impossible to get the road in operation by that time I fet believe that the road will be open for traffic b before fore the tho first of next year veal I but i b how so soon n before that thai date I cannot cannot say This statement will be a disappointment disappoint disappoint- ment to to people of this city as well as asto those to-those to those of Nevada and California who bad had hoped that tho the road would bo be in operation before the encampment of tho the G G. A. A R. R in this city next August The Western Pa Pacific people are doin doing everything everything everything every every- thing in their power to rush tho the work but the greater reater part of it through a mountainous country is not an easy job At the present time practically the entire force of the company is at work in Nevada and California In the former state there are three gaps to be closed u up and in tb the latter one gap ap tobe to tobe tobe be close closed These gaps include a number of brid bridges es Much Work Done On the greater reater part of four gaps aps the grading radin work has been done and mL and- the tunnels have hayo been bored the bridges brid es are arc being bein put in in place as fast is as possible and everything is bein being done dono donoto to rush the work It must bo ho understood understood understood under under- stood however that the connecting of the rails will not mean that tho the road is ready for operation much work will have to be bo done after the rails are arc laid the tho entire length This work will consist of a a. great reat amount of ballasting for despite the fact that tho road or at least east part of it which has been built to the present time is the best new railroad ever built in the west there will still remain a lot of work to be bedone bedone bedone done before it will be bo ready for traffic There is also another thing that it would be well be-well wen well for some of the hurry up people to know and that is is that while whilo the company has bas ordered and received over twenty of the latest type typo of locomotives locomotives loco loco- motives moti and has more ordered and ana while it has bas ordered 1500 freight cars calS together with passenger ears cars few of them have been delivered yet et and it is hardly r likely likely- that thai rolling stock enough to operate the tIle road could be received before November 1 According to one ono of the tho officers of the tho road who was in this city a short time ago it is the intention of tho the company not to open the road until it itis itis itis I is in tho the best of condition from one ono end to the tho other This simply means menns that the tho road will not be opened for at at least five fl or six months The ori original inal estimated estimate 1 cost of ot the road was I It t is believed however that b by the tho time the road is put in iu operation oper tion it will cost between and The Tho company company com com- pany has placed bonds for so that there will bo be no question of money to complete the tho road RAILROAD NOTES N TES Thirteen Insano soldiers accompanied b by nine guards and a United States sur- sur Kean gean passed through Ogden this mornIn morning morn- morn In ing en n route from the tho Philippines to Washington D.
