S hospital at o'clock this afternoon it was said that Mrs Wells was very very low low Mrs Emily Emily Wells wife of former Gov Coy Heber M. M Wells was seriously injured In an automobile accident at o'clock this morning by the machine coming in contact with the southwest stone pillar of the Eagle Gate The other members of the party at the time I o of the accident were e Mr and Mrs J Joseph gh gho T. T Richards Mr and Mrs Richards Mrs Wells and anda a woman t friend had s spent t the evening at atthe atthe fh the home e et of Judge Le La Grand a de Young n Eleventh East street between Ninth and Tenth South streets When the party was ready to return to to- the city it was discovered that something was the matter matter mat mato ter with the auto and nearly two hours were spent In trying to fix it so 80 that the return run could be made The fourth i member of oC the party was first taken to her home and the drive to Mrs Wells Wells' home was started The party came west on South Temple street When they reached the Eagle Gate Mr Richards attempted to turn the machine north to go to the tome of ot Mrs Wells Veils on First avenue According to the statement of Mr Richards the steering apparatus refused to respond quickly enough enough- and the machine struck one of the stone pillars Mrs Wells was thrown Violently Violently- ly against the sharp corner comer of the pillar At first it was thought that her left leg had been broken Mr and Mrs Richards were were both thrown from the machine Mrs Wells was carried to her home less tharl a block away and and- Dr Pinkerton Pinkerton Pinkerton Pinker- Pinker ton was summoned and found that th the left leg had been cut nearly J.
