OWEN BUNKER There are a number of busi-ness and professional men in Salt Lake City who have gained rec-ognition for their progressiveness and a well known insurance man who belongs in this category is Mr. Owen Bunker of the General insurance company bearing his name. , Mr. Bunker is well established m the forefront of the business and civic life of his city. He is an aggressive person, yet one whose genal personality has earned for him and the compan-ies his firm represents, a host of friends and policy holders in his territory. The ethical man-ner in which he has conducted his business affairs is but just one of the reasons for his out-standing success. And aside from his business activities he has ac-cepted his share of responsibility in aiding civic projects. As a result of the combined efforts of men like him Salt Lake City is firmly established in the minds of the people as the logical business center for this section of the state. We congratulate Owen Bunker for his success in business and public affairs and trust he will continue for many years to en-joy that success which he has so justly earned. O JOT 0. CONDIE Generally speaking, civic pride is one of those things that goes hand in hand with success, be-cause a man must have been suc-cessful to fully appreciate the advantages that were afforded him by the community in which he lives. Mr. Jot O. Condie, owner and operator of the Condie Ice Cream Co., is one of those progressive business men of Salt Lake City who has shown his appreciation for his success by his attention to civic matters. His willingness to become a cog in the wheels of community progress, when-ever united effort is needed to put over some movement or pro-ject advanced for the good of his city, has always been taken for granted. Mr. Condie's quiet assumption of responsibility, not only in con-nection with his own business but in regard to other matters as well, has very often lent a feel-ing of confidence to others in-terested in the same movements. In complimenting Jot Condie upon his leading position in the community we do no more than express the admiration and re-spect of his many friends and associates. O D. B. HANSEN C. D. ROBISON There are many men in their chosen fields who have gained recognition for the progressive manner in which they have con-ducted their business and accept-ed their civic responsibilities but who will not permit much to be said of their achievements. It is however, public property every time a man reaches a position in any community where he is gen-erally recognized as a leader in his line. In reviewing a group of such citizens we must include Mr. C. D. Robison, mgr. of the Crown Roofing & Engineering Co., a man who has always done his work effectively even though it has been accomplished in an un-obtrusive manner. Mr. Robison busy as he is, al-ways manages somehow or other to do his bit in any movement caluculated to benefit the com-munity as a whole. His modesty, however, will not permit him to say the things about himself which are said by his friends, who would also tell you that his professional .conduct is a credit to his high sense of honor. We do not hesitate to recom-mend C. D. Robison to our read-ers as a citizen who continues at all times to work to the advant-age of the people of Salt Lake City. t J. to some of Ur,e pint tirLve business ProfS of Salt ,e" K? be remiss 11 !hoSd we fail to in-- I Davis, owner and Chi l: ;.H; Trl. It is firms of this kind that have based their activities on a policy of honest service, which become assets to any community. Mr. D. G. Pugh the mgr. is the man who is responsible for the kindly feeling held by the citi-zens of Salt Lake City and this district towards his company. He is a man who has won the re-spect and admiration of every-"on- e. We congratulate him on his splendid record and trust he will continue to enjoy many more years of success. O ARTHUR DAVIS Having a well earned reputa-tion for honesty, dependable judgment and a knowledge of the investment business far ve the average, Mr. Arthur Davis, executive head of the Davis Investment Co., merits a brief tribute in this Salt Lake City review. Without assumption, without sive used car dealers, wouia m doing so, have earned the friend-ship and good will of a great many people throughout this en-tire district. A man who justly deserves that distinction is mo-dest, efficient, friendly Vern Denning of the used car firm bearing his name. Mr. Denning is the type of man who would be an asset to any community, not only because the successful conduct of his busi-ness plays a definite part in the general civic scheme; but be-cause the ultimate measure of his value to his vity and this dis-trict lies in the fact that he is untiringly zealous and remark-ably successful in the promotion of civic progress. It would ie hard to estimate the actual dollars and cents value of men like this to their commu-nity. We congratulate Salt Lake City for numbering among its more progressive citizens such a man as Vern Denning and we al-so express the wish that he will enjoy many more years of suc-cess and prosperity. GEORGE P. SLOUGH It is because of the unfailing optimism and faith which he so consistently displays toward the future of Salt Lake City and vic-inity that we are prompted to call the particular attention of our readers to the fine service which Mr. George P. Slough of the Comet Motor Express Co., performs in the successful con-duct of his business. Mr. Slough is an aggressive and resourceful personality whose progressive policies have earned for him a widespread reputation as a business man of more than average ability; and his appar-ent willingness to devote some of that ability to the promotion of civic activities further en-hances his value to the city. The safety and efficiency of the operations of the Comet Mo-tor Express Co., reflecting as it does the executive ability of this man, has earned for the com-pany a well deserved popularity among the people they serve. We are glad to give George Slough the credit he so well deserves for his achievements and to wish for him a continued successful ca-reer as one of Salt Lake City's more progressive business men. o D. C. FROBES Salt Lake City has assumed its place of importance in the Inter Mountain area because of the efforts of far seeing business and professional men who have developed the natural resources, or in some manner extended the trade advantages, of the locality. One of the men who has taken an important part in many pro-gressive movements is Mr. D. C. Frobes, pres. of the mining sup-plies firm of Frobes Co. Mr. FroUes has devoted a great deal of his time and energy to the growth and development of his city and this district and it is fitting at this time that we at-- 1 DARRELL D. SISEMORE Progressiveness, coupled with ability, always a praiseworthy feature in the passing scene of any community's daily life, is to be duly appreciated. In full reali-zation of this and in recognition of the splendid personality which gives impetus to the personal success in his case, many resi-dents and business people of Salt Lake City and our own commu-nity, regard Mr. Darrell D. Sise-mor- e, executive head of Darrell's Advanced Hair Design Institute, as a true asset to his city and this district. Mr. Sisemore is keeping his advanced training school at the forefront at all times and by us-ing the most modern equipment and teaching the newer and more popular methods of hair design, he has maintained a position of leadership in his field of endea-vor. Capable and energetic in the management of the business he has come to be recognized as one of the city's more progres-sive business and professional men. Recognized as one of the more progressive business men of Salt Lake City Mr. D. B. Hansen of the Davidson Sales & Service Agency, performs a real service for the people of his city and this district and his many contribu-tions to civic betterment are too well known to require repetition in these columns. His personal success has been turned to the advantage of his fellow citizens and he is always ready to assist any enterprise which promises to advance the welfare of the com-munity. Mr. Hansen is deserving of praise and this small tribute is but a just recognition for the many services which he has per-formed in the way of both busi-ness and civic activities. His re-putation for the successful con-duct of his business affairs is no greater than his reputation for the honest practices which char-acterize his every transaction. We congratulate D. B. Hansen on his splendid record and trust that he shall continue to serve the people of Salt Lake City and vicinity. ARTHUR H. and WALLACE A. DAVIS Two of the more progressive business men of Salt Lake City and men who deserve the respect and good will of a great many residents of the city, are capable, friendly Arthur H. and Wallace A. Davis of the Davis Jewelry Co., whose wide knowledge and lang experience in the jewelry business has raised them to po-sitions of prominence in their line. It is because of this that the Davis Jewelry Co. has earned a reputation for reliability second to none. The Davis' are also civic mind-ed and have always been ready to contribute their time and energy to any plan which prom-ises to benefit the entire district. And the people of Salt Lake City may regard with particular sat-isfaction the many services that they have performed for the com-munity in the interest of pro-gress and civic betterment. As a leading and progressive business man, Mr. Davis nolds a high position in the esteem of the public generally. We desire to add our personal tribute and to make this public statement praising him for his many con-tributions to the welfare of Salt Lake City and vicinity. It is not only as a practical executive whose sound judgment and farsighted planning have brought such fine things to him-self, but it is because of hs in-spiring optimism and loyal friendship that Art Davis is held in such high regard by the peo-ple of this district. We gladly praise the record of this pro-gressive Salt Lake City business man. O V. TEEPLES LYMAN L. CROMER In compiling this review of progressive Salt Lake City busi-ness people, we have endeavored to select those citizens who, by the manner in which they have conducted themselves " and their businesses, have caused the pub-lic to spot in them, certain quali-ties over and above the average. Such a man is Mr. Lyman L. Cromer of the Cromer Brokerage Co., who is well known to many of our readers because he has many friends and associates in this area. Mr. Cromer's main interests have not been solely confined to his own business and private affairs, but have also included his contributions, in one form or another to those projects of a civic nature which come within the scope of his activities. He npver npfflwts those obligations. in for the many activities ive conducted on behalf general welfare of the r.;ty. We trust C. E. :s, who serves Bingham 3 for his company and his 3, E. H. and M. DON BOSCH Mr. Don Bosch, mgr. of the Cullen Garage, i3 one of those regressive business men who Eas always done his bit to main-tain the prestige of Salt Lake City as a leading metropolis of this section of the state. He has always worked for the develop-ment of the city and his many services are worthy of sincere appreciation. . Mr. Bosch has proven himsell worthy of extended mention and these few words are not really adequate recognition for the many services which he has per-formed in the promotion of pub-lic welfare. His well earned suc-cess as a garage operator is easily understood, knowing as the people do his widespread re-putation for the honesty which characterizes all of his business dealings. It is a combination of techni-cal knowledge, mechanical skill rA hiioinPs ability which nas O A. J. DEAN To those progressive business men who have also taken a part in civic affairs we owe a debt of gratitude that we find difficult to pay. However we can do so in part by publicly acknowledg-ing their many services and we take this opportunity to pay a brief tribute to Mr. A. J. Dean of the A. J. Dean Ready Mixed Concrete Co. In doing so we ex-press the sentiment and feelings of not only the community but also of those people who have been actively associated with him in business or civic affairs. Mr. Dean's time is almost wholly occupied by his own af-fairs. Yet there has never been an occasion when he has been called upon by the people of Salt Lake City and vicinity, to assist some civic project, that he has not responded and helped to the fullest extent of his ability to further that project. Thus he has frequently sacrificed his person-al interests to promote some worthy cause. Because of this A. J. Dean has proven himself to be a good citi-zen of whom his city and this district have every reason to feel justly proud. What Darrell Sisemore and his institute have accomplished in the past is the best indication of what may be expected of him and his school in the future. He has our admiration and best wishes for continued success. O GLEN L. and CALVIN P. RUDD Glen L. and Calvin P. Rudd, owners and operator of the Drap-er Poultry Products Co., are two of those progressive type of citi-zens upon whom the community depends a great deal for leader-ship in business and other mat-ters. They have, in the past, and no doubt will continue in the future to give more than their share of time and energy for the welfare of others than themselv-es They are the kind of people who make friends, and friend-ships once formed by them are never broken by an unfriendly act on their part; and they spare no effort in order that their ser-vices to the people of the com-munity shall be dependable. The Rudds have never been known to inject themselves into a situation for the mere purpose of gaining publicity However, thev proceed in a calm, unosten-tatious manner, and accomplish Lyman Cromer is a man of wide experience whose exploits in the business and civic life of Salt Lake City and vicinity merit more than passing attention and this writer is privileged to pay this brief tribute to a man who well deserves more credit than is accorded him here. . O DICK BROWN Dick Brown, owner and opera-tor of the Dick Brown Used Car Lot is one of those progressive used car dealers of Salt Lake City who has consistently forged ahead in business. He has also put his shoulder to the wheels of civic progress whenever help is needed in furthering enterprises promoted for the general welfare of the community. Mr. Brown was never a man given to wishful thinking. His methods are those of direct ac-tion and whether the problem at hand is. one concerning his own business or that of a civic nature, he attacks it with optimism and a vigorous enthusiasm. Add to this his acknowledged business ability and his keen sense of values and it is easily under-stood why he is almost invar-iably successful in business or other matters. We feel that it is our duty to call the attention of our readers to these worth while character-istics of Dick Brown and to pay him a well deserved tribute for his straightforward business me-thods and for the unselfish in-terest he has shown in public welfare. O tempt to express in some small way our appreciation for his un-selfish contributions to the gen-eral welfare of the community. His many friends admire and respect in him those virtues that promote confidence and inspire good will. His upright business methods are but an outward re-flection of his inherent appreci-ation for fair practices. We con-gratulate D. C. Frobes on his success in both the business and civic life of his city and trust he will continue to progress in both fields of activity. O D. G. HEUGLY Every progressive, successful business man in Salt Lake City contributes in some manner to the growth and progress of the city. And a man who is always willing to do his bit in both busi-ness and civic activities is Mr. D. G. Heugly, mgr. of the Cudahy Packing Co., who is well known and has many friends and con-tacts throughout this entire dis-trict. The prominent part that the Cudahy Packing Co., is playing in the business and civic life of Salt Lake City and vicinity, mirrors the progressiveness and ability of such men as he. He has also at all times been steadfast in his devotion to the city and the surrounding country and on many occasions has lent his sup-port to the successful promotion of meritorous civic projects. Salt Lake City and this dis-trict are fortunate to ..have such men as D. G. Heugly in a posi-tion of responsibility and service and this newspaper is merely re-flecting public opinion in pay-ing this brief tribute to one of the city's more progressive busi-ness men. DONALD Mr. Donald V. Teeples, owner of Don's Overall Laundry, has won the universal respect and good will of the people of Salt Lake City and the surrounding country for the progressive man-ner in which he has kept his company in the forefront of the business life of this entire dis-trict. Also for the efficient and friendly willingness he has dis-played in accepting his share of responsibility in aiding civic projects. Mr. Teeples is not the kind of a man who makes himself con-spicuous by the manner in which he conducts himself, either in business or other matters. Yet his quiet reserve and air of confi-dence mark him as a man of sound judgment whose opinions and advice are sought after and listened to with respect. We compliment Don Teeples for his successful management of Don's Overall Laundry, also for his constructive advice and help on those civic affairs in which he has found time to in-terest himself. He is a man whom many are proud to call friend. O LEWIS J. EVANS In singling out some of the more progressive business men of Salt Lake City we would be censored should we fail to in-clude Mr. Lewis J. Evans of the Culligan Soft Water Service Co. He is a man who has never spar-ed himself in his participation in both the business and civic activities of his city. Mr. Evans has always been conscious of his civic responsi-bilities and ready and willing to meet in every detail those op-portunities which come to his attention to further civic enter-prise. He may well be proud of his achievements along these lines. - Lewis Evans also deserves a great deal of credit for the hon-est and successful manner in which he has conducted his busi-ness affairs. He is a friendly, likable personality whose sin-cere desire to be of service has gained for him a host of friends and acquaintances in and around Salt Lake City who would if given the opportunity, join us in wishing him many more years of continued success. their objectives with a quiet dig- - niWe do not hesitate to recom-mend Glen and Calvin Rudd, to our friends as good examples of the more progressive type or business people who have aided the growth and development of Salt Lake City and the sur-rounding country. LOU DeWOLFE Mr. Lou DeWolfe, owner of DeWolfe's Gun Shop, has a well earned reputation for progress-iveness because he has consist-ently forged ahead in his busi-ness never letting up in his ef-forts to make the service his company renders to the people more valuable. This invariable policy has made DeWolfe s Gun Shop outstanding in its field, a tart that is well known to the W. E. PUGH and JOE S. CARR In every community there are a number of citizens who can be pointed out as having taken a three fold part in the onward progress of their city. We take pleasure in publicly giving Lou DeWolfe the credit for his accomplishments which his friends and associates have so long accorded him. o J. N. COUNTER In mentioning some of those men who are taking a progres-sive part in the evolution of the business and civic life of Salt Lake City, we would be censored if we failed to include Mr. J. N Counter, district mgr. of the Colorado Fuel & Iron Corp. Mr. Counter is that solid type he does business. His aggressive methods, coupled with his sound and practical ideas, have . made the services he renders to the people more valuable and mater-ially contributed to his well-earne- d success. Mr. Crofts is also civic minded and has always shown a cheer-ful willingness to contribute his share of time and energy to the promotion of community pro-jects. It is because of - the activities of such progressive business peo-ple that Salt Lake City continues MAURICE MORTON It is appropriate that we in-clude in this review of progres-sive Salt Lake City business men Mr. Maurice Morton of the Clarke Sanding Machine Co. He not only has the reputation of being progressive but also the added one of being a willing sup-porter of many community af-fairs. Aside from his business activi-ties Mr. Morton has always shown an interest in the civic mediate associates. Pugh and Carr are men who are equally liked and respected by their intimate friends, and their business associates. They are loyal to the community, thankful for their success in business and have shown their appreciation by their contribu-tions to various civic movements of benefit to the city. We congratulate W. E. Pugh and Joe S. Carr, for being good citizens, progressive business men and boosters of their home town. |
