Show WEST SIDE CITIZENS CHARGE COMMISSION WITH UNFAIR POLICY J Edi Editor or The Telegram 1 We w the people of the west side have begged and pleaded with the city commissioners for tor relief from stagnant water that has nearly flood flooded d us out but as yet have received no reply or help We have observed that that the city officials of of- ls recently took a Joyride over the I new speedway between here and Saltair Salt- Salt air We Ve suggest that the road has been named well There are times when It Is unsafe for a person to walk wall along it it With the absence absence of of scree street lamps and the flare of automobile lamps an ah every night occurrence the dangers are Increased Persons driving anything so antique as ag a horse and buggy along this road at night are either forced Into the ditches on the sides of the road or made liable to a smashup that may cost their lives The city commissioners commission commission- ers however have pral praised ed the beauties beauties beauties beau beau- ties and wonders of ot this new ney road DISGRACE TO TO- CITY W We would like to call the city commissioners commissioners' commissioners commissioners' commissioners commissioners' com com- missioners' missioners attention to a spot four fourteen fourteen four four- teen blocks from MaIn str street et on North Temple street Just west of the river It is a disgrace to the city We are forced to bank dirt around bur our ur homes to keep the water fr from m running into them It Is Impossible to get to the barns Darns without a pair of boots BuggIes Buggies Buggies Bug Bug- gies and Implements must stand out of doors because it Is impossible to get them under the shed s. How would you men and the city commissioners I like to leave your cars standing out of doors In all kinds of ot weather At night we have to inhale the stench of stagnant water from these ponds while we sleep In IIi the summer when we leave our homes we we do not know whether they will wm still be standIng standing standing stand stand- ing when we return or whether they will be burned to the ground by fires tires spread by burning weeds that are beIng being be being be- be ing irrigated now how by the ponds NO PROTECTION We e have no city water and no police protection In fact tact we have very few if any of ot the privileges that the city is supposed to provide for its residents yet We re are taxed to the fullest Our children are in danger of contracting various kinds of disease coming from this stagnant water A month ago when we went to the city and ad county building to put these deplorable conditions before the city commissioners we had to lock our children in the houses so that they would not be drowned In the ponds in our yards Practically all of this could be remedied by the opening up of a ditch to the river MOSQUITO HATCHERY We sometimes wonder If it there is really a board of health in this city We cordially Invite the inspectors of thIs department to visit this mosquito hatchery which surrounds surrounds us us s which is in our back yards a few feet outside our doors and windows Th They y would realize what we have to co contend te d with within I in n comparison with the people of the I east side Let us W say here that there are ar are Just as good people live on n the west side as on the east side We are Just as loyal citizens as s those living in any other section of ot the city Our votes vote were Just as Instrumental instrumental instrumental mental In placing the present administration admin admin- administration in office as as' as those tro from any other section of the city We voted for tor the present administration thinking thinking thinking think think- ing that they would do something to relieve these deplorable conditions on the west side side thinking that we would be provided with some of ot the conveniences conveniences con- con that people in other sections of of the city have MONEY SPENT ON PARKS The money which is spent oh ort building building building build build- ing parks in canyons outside the city limits and erecting memorial bridges s sif if If some som of It were viere spent on the west westside west side side- In relieving the flood conditions and Improving the streets it would be a memorial to the rising genera genera- tion I 1 must say the men are slow in demanding their rights I was asked by a man the other day If the bridge across the river marked the city lim lim- its I replied that the limits limns extended two miles west of the river bank The conversation together with the conditions do not speak very well for the city officials The conditions ar ara are area a disgrace 1 APPEAL FOR PROBE We ask ash the editor to drive over this road look at the houses on either elthe side of ot it and then do as he would woul want to be done by We petitioned the city for water bu not In ponds which Is the only way our petition has been answered We have had fires near here I in the past few years and there has ha been no fire station or apparatus provided provided pro pro- vided for our protection yet Hoping this will have some effect and stir the city commissioners t to engage some of their idle men an and money money- by Improving conditions conditions' i In this section of the city I am Respectfully A A.
