Offending motorists should not only be required to ret new license plates, but they 'should be prosecuted and fined for not having J complied with the laws earlier in the year 4 i 4 ;l Enforcing the Laws J .EMPLOYES of the state road commission ' are to be pressed into service as special .police officers to aid in enforcing the traffic regulations in -various parts of the state, as . 'well as the provisions of the state motor -vehicle law. This cooperation should prove a big aid in removing the criminally negligent or reckless driver from the roads of Utah. As a matter of fact, the police should have the earnest support of all law abiding citizens "in enforcing the traffic laws which are de--signed to protect the general public. , Road agents pan also render valuable aid in compelling every Utah motorist to coniform con-iform to the state license requirements.' Too many unscrupulous Individuals escape payment of the license fees as well as personal prop-jerty prop-jerty taxes by ignoring the provisions of the jlaw. Some efforts have been exerted by the . state administration in this direction this year -and quite a number are now using 1923 jlicense plates who otherwise might have oper-jated oper-jated throughout the year with their old plates. These- people obtained their new license plates after they had received warning from employes of the state road commission and the office of the secretary of state. This, (however, is not enough in view of a certain precedent. A Salt Lake man, the other day, paid a fine of $25 for attempting to evade ;payment of the license fee on, one of his cars. So far as we know this is the only prosecution prosecu-tion this year for an offense which has been. Imore or less general in certain parts of Utah. J The point we desire to make is- that 'every automobile owner in the stated knows .'that he is required by law to equip his car Svith new license plates ach year. There !is no such thing as ignorance on this point .ind if there was it would not be an excuse. it is manifestly unfair to single out one man f a'.I the violators for prosecution.
