Show DARROW CASE CLOSED, SAYS JUDGE POWERS, BACK FROM COAST That the charge of bribery against Attorney At-torney Clarence Darrow of Loa Angeles will In all probability never be brought up for trial wae the etatement made yesterday yes-terday by Judge O. W. Powers, who had Just returned from laoe Angeles, where he wae a counsel for the defense. Judge Powers stated that ever since the jury in the first trial disagreed be had been convinced that Darrow would never again face trial on that charge. He said that ha has very strong reasons for that supposition, sup-position, but declined to state them. Tbe charge against Darrow, that of attempting to bribe a Juror in the Mc-Nsma Mc-Nsma ra trial, wi s removed from the oourt calendar at Loe Angeles a few daye ago on the motion of Acting District Dis-trict Attorney Joseph Ford and with the consent of Attorney H, 1 Oetsler for the defense. Attorney Ford In making the motion reserved the right to sak that the case be reeet. but such action la highly high-ly Improbable. The first trial lasted six court weeks and reeulted in a disagreement disagree-ment after the Jury had been out mors than forty hours. Darrow la now Id Chicago, wher he has an extensive practice. |
