Show FIREMEN REJECT PLAN OE RAILROADS Upsets Settlement Negotiations; Negotia-tions; Strike Order Hang-ing Hang-ing by Thread. NEW YORK, Feb. IB Officer, of tha Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman and Engine men voted unanimously today to reject the amended plan of arbitration auhtnltted last night by fifty-four aaatern railroads. Title upset all negotiation! looking to peaceable settlement of the wage controversy contro-versy and leave the strika order, already printed, hanging on a thread. The firemen's fire-men's decision, reached at a forenoon conference, was Immediately communicated communi-cated to Judge Martin A. Knapp of tha United States commerce court, who, with others, has been acting as mediator In the dispute. Judge Knapp was obliged to go to Washington this afternoon on business connected with the commerce court, but O. W. W. lunger, acting United States labor commissioner, remained here and continued his efforts at mediation. Mr. Hanger sent the notloe of the firemen's latest decision to the railroad managers as soon as he received It. Judge Knapp expects to return here Monday afternoon. The railroad proposition provided for arbitration under the Krdman aot, but with six Instesd of three arbitrators as the statute provides. |
