All California fruits and vegetable come horn sections not affected. Frisk or vegetables vege-tables have never been known to transmit the disease. President Coolidg has asked 4 the people of the United States not to become hysterical about this disease which affects af-fects livestock. We were never as drastic or excited about similar epidemics affecting human beings. Below is a letter written by Dr. U. G. Hou:k, personal representative in California for the U. S. Secretary of Agriculture Wallace. UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE Bureau of Animal Industry Local Office . s. Produce Exchange, Los Angeles, Calif, $ kaaa-nAwgtfUs, Calif '. April 15. 1924. Gentlemen: 1 have been requested by various interested persons to express an opinion concerning the danger of carrying Hoot and Mouth disease through shipments of fruit and vegetables. In reply to such requests I will stale that I do not know of an instance in any of our previous fights against Hoot and Mouth disease where an outbreak was traceable to shipment of fruits or vegetables. I might state further that in previous outbreaks movements of vegetables and fruits were unrestricted except from the actual farms where the disease was known to exist, Yours very truly, U. G. HOUCK, t., With the U. S. Department of Agriculture. We are receiving fresh supplies daily of all kinds of Fruits and Vegetables from California, Nevada, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Mexico and Central America for the consuming public of Utah.
