Show GRIM MYSTERY IS CLEARED UP BY CONFESSION i Ralph Bently. the young sheepherder who was assaulted and left In the bottom bot-tom of a canyon near Blackfoot, Ida. la hovering between life and death today. By a complete confession of his deed. Alvln tarensen, a half breed, la alleged by Blackfoot officials to have completely com-pletely cleared up the mystery aur- rounding the grim affair. Bently disappeared while tending his flacks near the lava beds en May 14. District Attorney R. W. Adair and Hlierlff A. H. Simmons of Blackfoot organised a searching party and soon found him lying In the bottom of a canyon. He had been terribly beaten about the head and body with a blunt Instrument. Evidently ha had crawled for miles on his stomach during the three daya he had been left alone. He waa hurried to the hospital at Blackfoot. Alvln Lorenzen. the halfbreed. was known to have been employed in the vicinity and was Immediately placed under arrest. Sheriff Simmons then discovered a bloodstained hammer near the scene of the crime and several well defined footprints. Lorenxen wore a peculiar ehoe at the time, which the sheriff Is aald to have recognised as the one which made the queer printa A private detective named J. C. According to Blackfoot officials, Loranaen slated that he had wished to quit hla position and was afraid to do ao without having someone to take his place. When Bently refused to relieve re-lieve him he new Into a terrible rage and struck the boy with the hammer, knocking him down the canyon and then following him and striking him several times over the head. |
