Show New Auto License Law Proposed by Legislator Encounters Opposition Automotive Organizations for Sales Purposes Send in Protests Pro-tests Against Proposed Measure of Repre- v sentative Seegmiller in House THREE big automotive organiza- i tions of the state have gone on I record as opposed to house bill j No. 10, by Seegmiller, which proposes pro-poses new licSense fees, weight restrictions re-strictions and speed regulations for ' motor vehicles. Th organixations op- po-lng the original bill are the Utah State Automobile aasociatlon.. the In- ' termountnin Automotive Trsdes asso- I elation and th Utah Truck Ownera' association. I ! A long list of amendments have been offered to the Keegmlller bill by a Joint committee of the organisation. The original bill is characterised as "unwarranted" and unjust." and the organizationa urge the enactment of the amendments to provide equitable rule and regulations for all owners and operator of motor vehicles. Opposition Is made on the ground i that the HeeKiniller bill will destroy! the commercial progress of the motor! truck in the state. The new schedule' of license fees for motor trucks and the weight limitations are declared to be unfair by the organisations. TRUCKS DESTRUCTIVE. A letter accompanying the amendments amend-ments drafted by the Joint committee aays. In part: "Complaint is made that the truck Is tearing down our dirt and gravel roads. Home of these roads will stand more traffic than others. We propose that the state rond commission shall be the sole Judge of the weight to be carried on any dfrt or gravel road, thereby giving giv-ing authority to protect those roads by meana nf proper signs Covering weight restrictions. Our suggestion as to speed limits are taken from those states having statutes which are being enforced. en-forced. The modern method Is to sign those districts where speed is to be restricted. The motor tourist can then comply with our laws and not be imposed im-posed Upon by local ordinances. "All our amendments are the result of a desire to make our laws uniform with other states, together with being just and equitable to the cltisens of Utah. The motor vehicle fund must have additional revenue for the continuation contin-uation of highway construction and maintenance. The motor truck should,! not be called upon to bear an unfair! burden.
