Nov. 4 (At Sponsors Spon-sors who have kept "Tobacco Road" on the boards at a loss so It could enjoy the longest Broadway Broad-way run of any drama in American Amer-ican theatrical history were chagrined cha-grined today to learn that honor had been won five months ago. James (Jeeter Lester) Barton and other cast members thought they would have to wait until November No-vember 18 to beat the record of Ann Nichols' "Abie's Irish Rose." Someone discovered newspaper files agree that the Nichols play actually showed only 2337 times, a record which "Tobacco Road," Jack Kirkland's dramatization of Ersklne Caldwell's novel, exceeded last May 24. Previously the cast had thought tha record was 2532 performances. |
