rendition ot of The to which he listened on Christmas Upon Ulon entering the historic old build buildIng lag Ing he says I 1 was surprised to see c such lIuch n a beautiful Interior as from the tho outside ot of the building you OU would think It to be a very er dirty anti flUh place Illace The Flie building inside Is arranged some something something thing after the style tle or 01 our Tabernacle Ith the organ and at ono one end and gallery all around only instead d ot of having hard benches as we have hae It Is fitted throughout with lush opera i ich ch chairs end and having a seating capacity I or of about The tune advertised for or the concert to begin was p m in and we were there promptly at that time and found the place almost full ull and b by the time they began which was only ton minutes later there was vas not a vacant seat In the house I tad end hero here that they are very punctual punctual in ft starting prompt on time and this concert was ten min mm hate they would however have on time hind hod It not been that the they met with two very ery serious disappointments In the first place during the day their conductor Mr Thos Pacer jacer was IS taken seriously 11 lii and could not attend so 80 that the they hind hod to get and after thIs hM haul been arranGed their tenor singer Mr Iu Pugh h missed the train and could not come In until the next mornin As they could not hold the audience until that time Mr the new conductor con consented to sing the solo tenor parts and IlS as scott loon as this was announced by him him to the tho there was WIlS a great round of applause I found the Choral to to te an of very cry chiso to OO 00 members evenly divided In the res parts and with a string band ot of forty pieces and the grand organ they mode made a decided impressIon on me when they their first chorus And the glory glor ot of the Lord etc Every chorus that they pang throughout the evening was what I would call a perfect rendition I found that their voIces blended beau beautifully tit and throughout the entire program I dId not distinguish one erie fali note Their marks ot of expression cre ere something wonderful and one ot of the most pleasing features ot of the program was that In articulation they were especially drilled Every word could be distinctly under understood understood stood and ns as the words of this oratorio are II a grand sermon It made mo me wish that I could be nil allowed owed to get up and preach a 0 sermon to that audience on the same subject and If the they would only believe bellove It our mission here hore would ho be beery Very ery much easier caBler I was especially pleased In the tho work ot of the chorus ami orchestra and could have hae sat Bat there nil all night listening to them The choruses outside ot of the Lift up Your heads Hallelujah and Wor Worthy hy Is the Lanb were all new to rul ine and nil as there were Quite II a n or of others the three hours hourI I sat listening to them were not In the least wearisome I was Quite Impressed with the little chorus Their Sound Is Gone out Into nil all Lands and It you ou want to take up upa a short piece with plenty ot of opportunity for special work In expression I Ican Ican can commend this to you When the program had been rendered as far as the tho Hallelujah Chorus and while the organ and band were playIng the Introduction to thIs piece the tho whole audience arose to their feet to po pay tribute and respect to the ot of this the grandest chorus ever written The solo singers of the evening were Miss Beatrice Vernon soprano MIss Minnie Hackett contralto Mr Wm tenor In place ot of Mr Wall Wal Walter ter Pugh ami Mr Wm Evans Bass Miss Vernon the was Vas n a ayoung young lad lady about years ears ot of age and although her voice olce had not fully ull matured she ahe showed wonderful execution Especially was her success a marked one In the solo Come unto him nil all ye e that Labor ThIs Is 15 a beautiful l piece and the pathos that she bestowed upon thIs fully conveyed the meaning of those blessed words nil as found In the eleventh chapter to verses of St Mathew In the New Testament Again she Bhe made a wonderful slon sion In the tho solo I Know That In my Re He Hedl dl themer Liveth precision and technique In the he Piece captivated me and I Ionly Ionly only wished you were Bitting by my side to enjoy It MidI Mies Minnie hackett the contralto hall had n a very er pleasing little voice very er clear un articulation good but lacked the power ower and execution for or such work She however made a marked hit In inthe th the recitative Then shall the eyes ees ot of the blind hp h oven ell She showed that the hall bath spent considerable time on aa her tones though weak were of quality being a round deep mellow tone and she exerted her bier self especially to convey coney the precise meaning or of the beautiful words When Mr lie conductor for the evening stood up to sing the tenor I fully expected to hear a awry avery wry very much UP affair but no lIuch n a was nna In store for us lie sang eer one ot of those pieces us os though It was second nature to him himIn himIn In thE 1 en valley alley and nut quite so powerful HI his and air Thus saith the Lord ot of hosts and Wb Why do the so furiously rage together wrE re Indu veritable masterpieces nud no niftier lunner how long he sang liane lie he showed no exertion whatever hn teer HIs culton was Indeed to nie me astounding he th itI his very ery soul and those particular pails that needed emph emphasis and the of Scripture that to the coming ot of ChrIst le he produced In remarkable shape Ills very 01 appearance would Indicate that ho fully appreciated the sacredness ot of the text he was singing and when I per pcr perceive ccle how little tittle the world think of the teachings ot of Christ It makes m my very soul cry for tor pity for them There Is no question In my mind at ataU atall aU all but that nt at the time lel wrote the Messiah ho he was Inspired jf r God Godas Godas as In this lie he not on only treats the first coming ot of Christ but also of HIs sec second second ond coming and It our writers would make more use ot of the Scripture I think It would make mako a decided irs on the people of the world Well VeIl I am not going to preach you youa OU II a sermon this time ns as that was not my Intention when
