Show GROUP TO SEEK ' HELPFOR MINE A committee from Standardvllle was In Salt Lake City Saturday for meetings In an effort to draft a plan for continuing operations of the Standard Coal company's mine. Representing union and nonunion employea and community Interests, tha delegation planned to meet with the atata industrial commission and with Frederick A. Sweet Jr., president presi-dent and general manager, said A. H. Whits, president of local 5800 of tha United Mine Workers of America. Dr. I. K. Cummings, spokesman for the community, headed the delegation, dele-gation, which Included also Mr. White, George A. Smith and Clark A. Henderson. 'After the company was unsble to meet Its payroll on January 25, the employea agreed to continue working work-ing in an effort to reestablish the mine on a paying basis, Mr. Sweet said. Mr. White explained that the employes em-ployes sgreed to loan their services, with the understanding that they would receive back wagea as soon as ths company waa able to pay them. Company officiate confirmed the substance of this agreement. Half of the payroll was placed In the malls Tuesday night, Mr. Sweet reported. |
