The present commissioners j . did away with that system entirely and connected the sewage of the county institutions- infirmary, hospital nurses' home, etc. with the sewerage system of Salt Lake City,- and it has worked perfectly since that time. This was thought to be absolutely impossible. j The county institutions were connected with the city water sptenrand thirold-con- 1 taminated private water system installed by former commissioners done away with. j I j . They caused to be built a Scarlet Fever Hospital, modern and up-to-date, the archi- tecture of which has been copied in eastern magazines. Before Mr. Lindsay took charge all. the contagious diseases were mixed together, and very often a child who came with ' m scarlet fever went home with the smallpox. All diseases are carefully and thoroughly I isolated and quarantine rigidly enforced. They extended the elevator service from the third floor -to the ropf of the hospital, (J and now upon the roof of the county hospital is a modern tubercular sanitarium. j The nurses' home was enlarged by adding one story upon the old structure, and now ) that institution is modern and up-to-date with a capacity to care for and make comfort- able 25 nurses. 11 The present commissioners established a staff at the county hospital of specialists who have devoted their services free of charge, and the inmates Of the county hospital are now U receiving the best professional services this city has to offer.
