Iear Sir: Under date of December HI there recently appeared In your col -iimns a statement by the Newspaper Knterpriae ansoctatton which la erroneous erro-neous and which gives an unjust and wrong impression of the voluntary work done by .tames M. Reynolds, a Christian Sciential, among the Inmates of Sing Sing prison. The article referred to Mate- that Mr. Ueynolda la a Christian Science chaplain, which la untrue: that he was fortddden the freedom of the prison and only permitted to nee prisoners on regular visiting days and then only under the scrutiny of guards. There are only two regularly appointed chaplains chap-lains at the prison, they are under state salary and are the only outsiders permitted to go freely among the inmates. in-mates. Mr. Reynolds, though not a chaplain, has been doing voluntary welfare work at the prison during the paat six years and has accomplished a : vast amount of good In leading men i wnd nave made missteps arrd gone astrav hack Into the ways of honesty j and right living. He has during that time, while serving aa parole agent, found positions for more than 150 lih-! lih-! erated men, watching over their wel-: wel-: fare, encouraging them with friendly ; counsel and advice and ao enabled then, to make good. Thia la surely doing CSod'a work and too much praise cannot be given fo one thus engaged. Although the welfare workers of any j religious denomination are not allowed the. run of the prison, they are per-, mltted to meet the men In the visitor's! room and so give them aM. comfort I and counsel. 4'hrlstlan Science services serv-ices are held regularly in the prison chapel Yours truly.
