Show Top Quintets Pall Dn Battle for Utah Prep Titles Many leaders fell in Friday's-wild scramble for prep basketball bas-ketball honors, but Ogden, defending state high school cage champion, was one of the schools established as a strong contender con-tender for 1941 laurels. Ogden's Tigers displayed a nearly airtight defense In stopping North Cache. 30-11. The champs limited their visitors to three field goals while ringing up 12, and led 9-5, 18-7 and 26-8 In the first three periods. A rejuvenated Logan squad slapped Weber with a 38-24 defeat as Bill Ryan and Louis Liv-' Liv-' ingstone raged nine points each. Box Elder spilled South Cache 24-22 to stay Just behind Ogden. Jordan Dumps Granite Jordan's 26-23 decision at Granite Gran-ite highlighted the Jordan district race, but Tooele kept pace with the Beetdiggers by taking a 42-3!) in at Bingham, leading 9-8. 23-22 and 30-27 in the first three periods. The home team was unable to keep the pace in the second half as Kelly Giles bombed the hoop for 22 points. American Fork overpowered Lehl, piling up a 23-6 margin at half-time half-time in a 30-23 victory. Provo beat Lincoln, 49-16, as anticipated. Both Lehl and Brigham Young were weak in free throwing. Nephi forged Into the Nebo lead, gaining its second straight win, 34-23, over Spanish Fork, after being ahead 12-8 at halftime. Springville clung to an early lead to beat Tayson 29-23 as Elliott . Cameron caged 10 points to pace ' the win. Ephraim Is the lone unbeaten team In the Sanpete district, thanks to the shooting of Manti. which took a 44-42 win over North Sanpete San-pete in two extra periods, to spill that team from the top. The regular regu-lar time ended with the score 40-all. 40-all. and each squad scored In the f:rst overtime period. Ephraim ' gained Its second win by a Z3-16 score over previously undefeated Moroni, and Gunnison nosed out Wasatch academy 29-23. Panguitch gained Its second sec-ond straight win In the South Sevier Se-vier race, 37-30 over Escalante. Monticello also surprised by downing down-ing Moab. 34-27 in the San Juan-Grand Juan-Grand . district.
