Show WARNING GIVEN I DUCK HUNTERS A somber note of warning to duck hunters what they can expect ex-pect unless they observe very j closely the bag and possession , limits was sounded today by F. A. Thompson, federal game man-1 agement agent for Utah. Thompson, who is attached to the U- S. fish and wildlife service ser-vice and who works very close-1 ly with state game department officials, pointed out that the North American duck population j for 1946 has been estimated at j 80,000,000 birds. "There are an estimated two million hunters out this year", he asserted. "If each hunter gets only one limit of seven ducks during the entire season, then 14 million ducks will have been killed. "Add to this another seven million ducks winch will have been crippled and die. That adds up to 21 million birds and that is just about the maximum decrease de-crease that our duck population can take and survive." Thompson also pointed out that his figures do not take into consideration con-sideration the large numbers of ducks which are killed annually by predators, diseases and the drouth. |
