L-A valuable valu-able collection ot relics of the tour of President and Mrs. Grant around the world was yesterday placed for the first time on public exhlbl. tion In the National museum here. Their transfer to the Government was provided for in the win ot Mrs. Grant, to whom they were originally presented. They consist con-sist of an ancient Japanese cabinet of exquisite lacquer work inlaid with gold, presented by the Empress of Japan; a pair of large, modern bronse vases, embossed, em-bossed, blaxoned and decorated, presented by the Emperor of Japan; a lady's gold dressing case In the shape of an urn, with several smaller cups, the gifts of the King and Queen of 81am; a lady's sliver perfume per-fume toilet set of monumental and classical classi-cal design, with fine filigree, snd a chest containing old manuscripts. Including poems and other writings of great antiquity. an-tiquity. The collection waa placed beside that of Gen. Grant's relics, which have been in tha Government's custody for several sev-eral years. , |
