Show HERO OF WAR DIES IN THE OGDEN JAIL. Frank Youpt, who served five years In the United States army, two years of which time was. spent in active fighting In the Philippines, died In the city Jail yesterday arternoon of typhoid fever. Yount was wounded in the Philippines on March 18, 1899, and his wounds not healing, heal-ing, he was allowed to come to this country coun-try a year ago. He secured work on the East canyon dam, but became ill and came here. He was taken to the police station a week ago, and the City Physician Physi-cian took charge of his case. During the past few days the young man worried constantly because he was in Jail, and plteously begged to be taken elsewhere to die. As the hoeplt.il was full, his request could not be granted. Mrs. Margaret Hewland of Vincennes, Ind., a sister of the young man, has been notified of his death, and his body Is being be-ing held for her orders. Among the dead man's papers was found an honorable discharge from the army and many letters recommending him highly as an honest and capabi. man. His discharge showed that he had served In the regular army, from which he had been honorably discharged, and bad re-enlisted In company D ot the One Hundred and Fifty-ninth Indiana volunteer volun-teer regiment. |
