Will Erect New Homes. , The Utah Home Independent Telephone company purchased from Salt Lake City last night, for a consideration of $48,000, the magnificent business property known as the old city hall corner on State and First South streets. The only bid presented was that of Elmer B. Jones, representing- the Home company, and 'accompanied by a certified check for $4800, or 10 per cent of the amount bid. The Council accepted the bid and the transfer will go through without delay.. de-lay.. '..' The property has a frontage of 153 feet on State street, fronting west, and 123.5 feet on First South fronting north. , The right to use a twelve-foot alley on the south, leading to the Jail and fire department, goes wlfti the property. The Home Telephone company, the purchasers of the property, purpose to erect a three-story fire-proof stone, brick and steel building on a part of the lot, work to be begun at once. x Architect Fred Hale Is now preparing plans for the building. The construction construc-tion and equipment of the building will cost from $75,000 to $100,000. . A switchboard with a capacity of 12,000 subscribers is to be a part of the equipment. The T. M. C. A. has been given an option on the north two-thirds of the corner for the erection of an association clubhouse and gymnasium. Secretary Cox is making a great effort to secure the money necessary for .he purchase of the lot and the erection of a building. The Brighani Young Trust company is planning to erect a two-story brick and stone building on the vacant lot south of the Godbe-Pltts drug store, and to cover the two adjoining lots. The building, accordlng to present plans, will have a frontage of fifty feet with a depth of 100 feet, and the ground floor will be occupied by D. O. Calder & Sons, music dealers. j Some of the directors of the trust company favor a sii-story building Instead In-stead of a two-story structure. ' W. J. Halloran purchased the vacant lot at the southeast corner of Third South and West Temple streets yesterday from James Hague and others for a consideration of $23,017. The purchaser says that he will erect a modern brick store and office building, build-ing, three stories high, on the lot. The land will be leased to a firm which will erect its own building upon the site. |
