Show DON'T WANT BRYAN : TO STUMP ILLINOIS CHICAGO. July 14.-Roger C. Sullivan, the new member of the Democratic National Na-tional committee from Illinois, declared last night that it was not considered desirable de-sirable by members of the National committee com-mittee that William Jennings Bryan take the stump for the National ticket. Some days ago jlayor Harrison Invited Mr. Bryan to speak at a ratification meeting which is to be held in thlslty In a few days. Mr. Sullivan declared when informed in-formed of the invitation that had been extended to Mr. Bryan that the leader from Nebraska "must not come Into Illinois Illi-nois to speak." Explanations were at once asked of Mr. Sullivan, and he declared in reply that the National committee had decided not to have Mr. Bryan as one of its speakers. The reason assigned by the committee for this decision, according to Mr. Sullivan, Is that In their opinion he would "do the ticket more harm than good." When informed of Mr. Sullivan's declaration. decla-ration. Mayor Harrison said: "We have Invited Mr. Bryan to speak and I hope that he will accept. W think that he will do the ticket more good than harm." |
