The Oo limtian exposition at Chicago was indeed a monster mon-ster event, the memories of which will ldng survive with those who witnessed it But compared with the Ct Louis effort, the Chicago fair loses much of ifs luster. ' The site deroted to the Louisiana Purchase exposition ex-position embraces 1240 acres, while that at Chicago embraced only 633 acres; the Paris exposition in it 00 occupied-336 acres, while the Centennial in - Philadelphia covered but 236 acres. The main ex hlbit palaces at St Louis have under roof 128 acres, while those at Chicago .covered but eigity-two acres. ' These figures give some idea of the magnitude magni-tude and extent of the St Louis exposition. Approximately Ap-proximately 50,000,000 has been expended 1a buildings and exhibits for this wonder show, and practically the whole civilized world will be repre- r sented there. I ... .. '. .... ... .... , . . . , . Wonderful progress in science and invention has been made since the famous show at Chicago. Many forward strides have been made even since the marvelous mar-velous exposition of four years ago in Paris. There U therefore much new to be seen at this show. The mistakes of other big fairs have served to guide the management of this enterprise into safer paths. i The Louisiana Purchase exposition commemorates commemo-rates a world epoch. The transfer of the vast domain do-main west of the Mississippi river and east of the Eocky mountains from the dominion of France to tLe benevolent Government of the United States of 'America was an event of far-reaching' import In its consummation by peaceful purchase instead of conquest, a new theory, of government was advanced. ad-vanced. The passing from dominant control of a foreign power to the. freedom of enlightened liberty ,f evened the way for the development of this vast em- Tire and formed the bulwark for the perpetuity of the great American Eepublic. It is most fitting that this event should be cele-t cele-t rated, and St Louis has fittingly prepared for it The people of that great city, deserve succcbs for their magnificent effort 1 , i I |
