Show BETRAYED BY LANDLORD Alleged Hotel Thief Puts Up Bracelet as Security for Rent. George Murphy, formerly a porter In the Kenyon hotel, was arrested by the police Friday afternoon on a charge of having robbed Mrs. Elisabeth M. Cos-griff, Cos-griff, a guest of the Kenyon, of jewels valued at $750. The robbery was committed several days ago and the police were baffled. Among the stolen, articles was a diamond dia-mond studded bracelet Other articles were ring and a stick pin. Friday afternoon Murphy,, who had roomed at a west side rooming-house, and who had not paid his rent for some time, was asked to settle the accotint He had not the money but gave a bracelet as security, saying that he worked at the Kenyon and that he j would redeem the bracelet In a day or two. The landlord, going to the Kenyon, Ken-yon, asked If Murphy worked there. He then showed the. bracelet to the clerk and told how he came Into Its possession. posses-sion. The clerk at once telephoned to the police, who arrested Murphy. Other Jewelry wj also recovered. |
