Show PORTLAND ORATOR BOOSTS BIG SHOW The meeting of the Commercial club Monday noon was addressed by Secretary Secre-tary Tom Richardson of the Portland Commercial club. He confined his remarks re-marks to the Lewis and Clark centennial centen-nial to be held In Portland next year and spoke of the benefits that will come to Salt Lake on account of the heavy travel to and from the fair. There will be great numbers of fair visitors who will stop over in this city, and many of them, without doubt, will be here long enough to look over the situation. He spoke of the efforts being made by the great railroads to make this traffic exceedingly ex-ceedingly heavy and asked that the Salt Lake Commercial club co-operate with them in securing a good attendance attend-ance and thus help the fair, the West and Salt Lake. He gave in detail the purposes of the exposition, which Is to be held from June 1 to October 15 of next year. It Is commemorative of the one hundredth anniversary of the exploration of Oregon Ore-gon and the Northwest made by Capts. Lewis and Clark, planned by President Jefferson. The cost of the exposition will approximate $5,000,000 and will occupy oc-cupy 402 acres. In addition to the fain there will be twenty or more national conventions in session at the time of the exposition. |
