Show Let Mayor Morrb Enforce tha Law. Mayor Morris made several good suggestions in his first message to the City Council. Among his praiseworthy recommendations was one concerning the -smoke nuisance. In this section of his message the Mayor urged that the smoke nuisance nui-sance be abated and that action be taken to compel owners of large buildings in the heart of the city to install smoke consumers. Now it is announced that it is impossible to abate the smoke nuisance because no stoker has so far been invented that will consume smoke. Such argument as this is silly; it is an Insult to the intelligence intel-ligence of the people of Salt Lake. There are no less than six practical, successful consumers on the market Any one of them will remove all traces of smoke from the largest furnaces. fur-naces. Chicago has been waging an anti-smoke campaign, cam-paign, and today that city is virtually smokeless. Every big building has a consumer and these stokers sto-kers are doing the work they are expected to do. The only hitch in making Salt Lake a smokeless city lies in the failure to enforce the law. In Chicago the smoke nuisance was abated and it can be done here. Let Mayor Morris make his message of some practical value by seeing to it that the law is enforced. en-forced. ' .null 1 |
