Show I FROM VARIOUS MISSIONARY FIELDS Tnr tj rY ter LT31ANION lib I ThIIlh rvgelialloor reports a la the n lOan lOa-n J tnijov Lebanon Co Pennsylvania November ijlh 1896 fo the Dlilor At our last conference held In MetiWesl Vr glOla I11Y field at labor was changed I wasasJigned to labor I In the slate rt I was slid ttl r ia at 1enusjKanui In the city ol Lebanon I left Mill September 3oth for Pratt Mar laod where the Maryland conference confer-ence > was held during the and 3rd and 4th of October Ave y enjoyable time use had both In conference and in Priesthood t Priest-hood meeting President S G Spencer presided and gave all Elders very valuable valu-able instructions in regard to their luture I labors He spoke on the necessity ol traveling henceforth without purse or term and depending entirely upon the Lord to which all agreed feeling greatly great-ly blessed and bouyed up Horn e1t Elders Richardson and Parrlh I and myself went to Duck valley Fulton county PcnnsyKanla where five PerinIvania new members were baptized and Elder I Richardson our conference president organized a branch of Ihe Church ot about hilly even members Brother arrish I and I assisting Leaving the Saints Buck Valley wo proceeded onto Huntmgtou Huntington Hunting-ton county where we were expecting to meet our new companions This was A dIStance of about one hundred mites which was traveled on foot We were bouyd up with the Spirit and the blessings ing 01 God making mny kind friends who fd and lodged ill Reaching Huntlngon on Ilia Morni4g of October Sib w a mt our new companlo Elder Andrew Peterson 01 loanCche county Utah and Elders Rich and inomasgt Bear Lakeldaho Allerashort rest and taking refreshments our com panlons were assigned Andrew Peterson Peter-son King I appointed to labor with me Taking tne lust train we arrived at our destination at 9 oclock p m We left the train and wended our way up to Main street and there amidst the glitter at gas and the whirl 1 of wealth and alass de f fashion an the roar of trade we realized rea-lized we were Indeed without friends Wo had only twentythre cents In uUI I pocket But even here amid the hum of the electrc cars and the busy streets crowded with humanity and a rush and I tumult In all directions all ol which was I strange In our ear still we were not daunted for we knew God was here ever ready to help and guide us as He had so often don in the past Entering the Eagle hotel the best In the city wo presented our cards to the proprietor set forth our calling and the wy we traveled We were made welcome wel-come and given a good bed Next day was Sunday and fasting as we are commanded com-manded to enter a new beld we went to a Lutheran church Alter church being I hungry we retl the Central 1 hotel explained our position and calling call-ing as we had done the night previous i odg fc J tttg and the proprietor I bade us welcome entertained us until Monday Wo began our labors by first visiting the mayor aldermen and editors and were treated with the utmost kindness and consideration by them all The mayor used his Influence lu trying to get the court house for us to speak in We have failed however so far in getting a house although we have tried near y I all m the city Hut we hate let the I people know that we are here to preach I the Gospel and have taKen our position on the street corners Thus far our meetings have been very yiell attended and through it all the Lord has been with us in raising up friends to us who have given us money fed us and lodged Ui the barbers trim our hair and shave us all lor the blessings ot the Lord This U i a very beautiful city It has a population of about twenty thousand There are twenty four churches In the cily Catholic and Lutheran predominating predominat-ing We have had the pleasure oi meeting meet-Ing several gentlemen hero who have traveled through Utah and who are I most profuse In their thanks for clad kind way in which they were treated by the I people and they never tire in telling about their visit to the Salt Lake Tabernacle and In explaining how a pin I v > as dropped In one end and was heard by them in the other I I We leek like doing our duty In spreadIng I spread-Ing the Gospel although ili is very bard speaking on the I streets the atsmophere I j being very heavy it effects the lungs But ie have to do the best me can underthe existing circumstances I WILLlA 1 IILL I I I |
