Ivel Doctor is all. that a champion - .should be. both in physical makeup and disposition. ' Although possessed of at face, that would not tend to make one believe It altogether safe to be near the champion, Ivel Doctor never looks for trouble." " He has been a show ring star ever since he was a Tuppy. Before coming to this country Ivel Doctor won as he pleased in his class, -and when brought here he was at once stamped ' as a real champion, and time after time has been awarded blue ribbons '( Over old-time favorites. So often has the champion been shown In t2e ring that he seems to know JUBt how to act when before the critical eyes of the Judges. In this respect he , has quite an advantage over younger dogs. The assocla-' assocla-' tSfjni throughout the couatry are al- - ready making preparations fon the rich stakes and purses which are to be com- peted for-op the various tracks. Re- ports from the different sections indl , cate that there is an abundance of j green material for the stakes this year . and It to evident that the classes will be high class. In addition to the regular reg-ular class events there will be the usual record breakers that will add Interest . to the sport.- No less than three champions loom up at the present time and their per-, per-, fonnances next season will be watched with considerable Interest. First of all comet Lou Dillon, 1S, C. K. G. Billings Bil-lings champion trotter." Lou Dillon will be tent against her record to sulky and tt is more than likely that she will be sent against time without the aid of , any pacemaker in front. No matter how Mr. Billings sends her after the records those interested in the mare are confident that she can reduce her present pres-ent record. E. E. Smathers' champion trotting gelding. Major Delmar, who trotted a mile at Memphis in 1.-59, has been - saved for next year and the gelding's efforts will be confined to record breaking. break-ing. Mr. Smathers believes that Majo : Delmar is capable of reducing his record,' rec-ord,' but whether he can surpass that of Lou Dillon is a Question. The fact remains, however, that Major Ma-jor Delmar, la the hands of A. P. Mc-. Mc-. Donald, is receiving the best of care and that he will be pointed for records next summer. Outside of the record performances, Mr. Smathers still has his eye on the Memphis Gold Challenge cup, which he would like very much to win. At. present Messrs. Billings and . Smathers each have a leg oq the cup, and the race this rummer will be the . final race, the winner retting perma-' perma-' nent possession of the JiuOO trophy. ,. - Last year Lou Dillon proved an easy nner, winning two straight heats; 1 t Delmar was far from being at his L-st during the race. i Dan Patch, the world's champion pacer, pa-cer, will be sent after the pacing record rec-ord as usual and his trainer, M. E. Mc Henry, etlU believes that the champion cham-pion has not yet reached his limit- of speed. i - |
