Show LEADER OF SALVATION ARMY IS EN ROUTE HERE Commander Booth-Tucker, Who Speaks at Theater Sunday, Has Kotcd Careen I marching and holding meetings on the street. After ten year in India he was redalled to England and served five year there, coming to this country five years ago. Since coming to America, the commander com-mander has especially devoted his time and talent to the relief of the poor. He has adopted the -plan of removing the poor from the large cities and placing plac-ing them on small farms. Commander Frederick Booth-Tucker, who- has charge of the Salvation Army work In the United States, will arrive here In time to speak at the Salt Lake Theater Sunday afternoon and night. His subject will be "Love and Sorrow." There' are sixteen In thev Booth-Tucker party; fourteen of whom comprise the original . party, which is making the tour of the entire United States. Commander Booth-Tucker ha been In th Salvation Army work for over twenty -year. He never w depraved or degraded, but prior to his enlistment enlist-ment in this work was In th Indian civil service for the British Government- Here he began by doing some temperance work among ' the soldiers and civilians, which gained for him the cordial animosity of many officials. While on a furlough to England, he enlisted In the Salvation Army, and was finally accepted by General Booth as. an officer. He was then sent back to India to open up the army work there, and met with the strongest opposition. He waa arrested numbers of times and served v several short sentences for I j |
