Show PLEASED WITH AMERICAN WOMEN Chinese Reformer Says He Wishes Women of China ' Were'' as Beautiful and Unhampered. NEW YOBK, Aug. 17. There were fully 500 Chinamen on the pier of the Hamburg-American line yesterday when Kang To Wei, president of the Chinese Empire Reform association, sailed. He had completed a year's' visit to this country, Mexico and Canada, and was going to observe conditions in Kussia, Spsin, Greece and Portugal. The leader of the reform movement made a speech from (he steamer's deck to the throng on the pier, and was roundly applauded. "When the reform party goes into power at home," said he," "your methods meth-ods will be copied" Particularly did he praise American women, saying that their beauty and the freedom of their lives were extreme-lv extreme-lv attractive to him.
