Every seat in the honse was filled and people were standing when the meeting was called to order by Mrs. II. Warren Bmith, president of the woman's auxiliary. She gave a ehort address and introduced the speakers. An address was given on the rise of I the power of the women in the Amer- I ican flffht bv Deputy City Eecorder B. j S. Hives. e. told of the eitort of he and George L. Nye two years 'to get the women interested in the movement. His success, be declared, was that the first meeting brought out 400- women. He asserted that the fisht was for womanhood and to be relieved of th domination of the church. Thomas Weir, the next speaker, declared de-clared that he had been a lifelong Ee-publican, Ee-publican, but ' when he heard one of the citizens testify that he openly violated vio-lated the law of the land and tried to have it beUed that the women of ' Utah had been used to the horror, he ! said he then became ashamed thai he came from, Utah, and that he would never gain vote the Republican ticket so long as conditions remained. A. J. Weber, candidate for Connty Attorney, stirred his hearers with the story of the outrages of ehnrch influence influ-ence in politics. He directed his hearers hear-ers to the abuses of office under the Republican administration. The next speaker of the evening was former Senator Frank- J. Cannon. He declared that there had not been a Governor in Utah since Statehood, that none of them had been servants of the oeople. He further told of the break-in break-in of the covenants by .which Utah acquired ac-quired Statehood. . Mrs. H. Warren Smith, president of the local woman's auxiliary, opened the meeting.
