Show EXCITEMENT IN COPPER MARKET Rise of Three-Quarters of a Cent a Pound Since Friday. LONDON, May 14. The copper market mar-ket was excited today and the demands of shorts and consumers buying led to a big Jump. Prices opened strong at 86 2s 6d, rose sharply and closed at 87 5s, making a rise of 3 since May 11. (This is a rise of 4 of a cent a pound.) Tin made an even sharper rise under bear covering and closed at 212 per ton, showing a rise of. 8 since May 11, the last day the market was open. The chief reason attributed here for the rise Is tha neglect of the American operators to cover in time. It is stafed that they are now cornered for material mate-rial and that It is impossible to execute exe-cute the orders cabled here owing to the insufficiency of supplies. Ccpr'r reaciud 15s from the highest quotations of the Cay and closed at S3 10s. Thirteen hundred tons were sold. Tin further advanced this afternoon, closing at 215. About 750 tons were sold.:. |
