The Butchers and Grocers' association of this city has agreed to close all places of business busi-ness at noon , in order that the mem-bers mem-bers may devote the rest of the day to - the Improvement of their home surroundings, sur-roundings, i v. As 'heretofore the State 'officials will go to the Capitol grounds on Capitol hill, where each will plant a tree. The usual number of trees has been ordered for the occasion, but Secretary of State Tlngey was Informed this morning that each of the Invited guests, former State oraclals, would be present tomorrow to take a ' hand in . the . planting. Mr. Tlngey at once got -busy and ordered an extra number of trees. The faculty and students of the University Uni-versity of Utah promise, that they will eclipse any former . effort on -Monday. The boys of the .Institution will do the manual labor part of .the work, after which the girls will serve them with a lunch. None of the public schools will be open Monday, the children being excused ex-cused in order that they may plant seeds, etc., at their homes. On Tuesday Tues-day each child will report to his or her te"acher what they did in order to make Salt Lake a more beautiful city. The appeal of the Civic Improvement league will not be without its effect among the citizens of Salt Lake, and many have already signified their intention in-tention of giving their front and back yards such a cleaning up as they never had before. ' 4 The nursery and seed men are tired but happy. Every one of them reports the greatest week's business that they have ever had. It Is all that any of them can do to keep up with the demand de-mand for stock which is being made on them. Monday, will be the best and most beneficial Arbor day ever celebrated cele-brated in Utah. |
